The Whitesboro High School Varsity Baseball Team, in Marcy NY, had a goal to help Feed Our Vets. Not only were they able to provide a hefty amount of non perishable goods, but 24 turkeys and a generous cash donation from Affordable Luxury Awnings, LLC, put them over their goal!
I try to give back to the community whenever I can. This year, 2020, I was able to work with EASY radio, 105.9/100.7 and TALK 94.5 and get Liz Callaway and Nick Summers out of the truck! Unfortunately, I did not get pictures at this event but we donated 10 cases of baby food, 5 cases of diapers (all sizes) toddler finger foods and several boxes cereal for the babies too!
Liz and Nick were Stuck in a Truck until donations pushed them out the door. Food insecurity is so widespread this year, especially in view of the pandemic...children, families and seniors are desperately in need of food, personal care products, toiletries and baby food.
I am happy to say with all donations that were made, they successfully made it out of the truck. Over 19,000 pounds of food and monetary donations were donated to the Low Country Food Bank. This enabled them to provide thousand of meals for our neighbors experiencing hunger.

The second donation this year was a double donation. A previous job I worked at was a huge supporter to the St. Jude Children's Foundation. They gave so many donations through the sale of plush animals that the company was able to build a wing onto the hospital for the children. We were encouraged to sell the plush animals and the receiver could give this as a gift, or donated back the the store and the store would donate them to children in need via hospitals, fire departments, police departments or who ever could find comfort in this plush animal, hence, a double donation.
Every year the retail establishment would get two different plush animals to sell. Our stores would be loaded with plush! Case after case after case was received at the end of October to sell, which we did every year before Christmas. All profits, no less than seven dollars of the purchase price of each plush, this year it was Danny and Drew, are donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
I do not work for this establishment any longer, but have always been moved by the reaction on people's faces when they hug, one of these animals, feel how soft they are and know with the purchase of one, they are helping a child in need. So I have continued the donation process by purchasing the plush from my friends at the establishment and then donating them to our local fire department and
police department. This way when they go out on a call, and if a child is involved, this soft friend can, hopefully, ease the pain and help find comfort
during their distress.
A case went to our local fire department and a case
went to our local police department.
So, once again, Thank You, to my customers for your help making
someone else's day a little easier.
This is the first of many fundraisers to come. It was a great feeling knowing you were helping someone out. The support we received when people saw our carts was overwhelming. They would ask, "Are you making a donation?" I would respond, "Yes, my customers purchased awnings, and a portion of that went to all of this!" The look on the girls faces that helped us unload the truck was priceless "Yea! Pork and beans! We go through so many cans of them and spinach!"
Thank you to my customers for your help making
someone else's day a little easier.
